Sleeve Lobectomy

Sleeve Lobectomy

A sleeve lobectomy is a surgical procedure performed to treat lung cancer or other conditions that affect a specific part of the lung, such as bronchial tumors or lung infections. This procedure involves the removal of a portion of the main bronchus (the large airway leading to the affected lobe of the lung) and the surrounding lung tissue. The remaining healthy lung tissue is then reconnected to the main bronchus, preserving as much lung function as possible. Sleeve lobectomy is a specialized form of lung surgery that falls between lobectomy (removing an entire lobe of the lung) and pneumonectomy (removing the entire lung).
As with any surgical procedure, the decision to undergo a sleeve lobectomy should be made in consultation with a healthcare team, taking into account the patient's individual medical condition and treatment goals.
